TURBOCHARGER

ALL THAT YOU MUST KNOW ON THE

Turbo

The turbocharger is an autonomous mechanical system, consisting of the coupling between an exhaust casing (where high temperature exhaust gases are received) and a compressor housing (in which the air is sucked into compressing), which allows to recover some of the exhaust gas energy and uses it to overpower the engine.

By increasing the air mass sent into the combustion chambers, it significantly improves the torque and power of the engine, without requiring an increase in displacement.

The turbo operates at temperatures of more than 800 degrees C and with rotation speeds of more than 170,000 revolutions; it requires a forced lubrication that allows its proper functioning. The oil is its thrust fluid.

Why does a turbo break?

The turbochargers are very reliable: less than 1% break down due to manufacturing defects.
It is essential to identify why the last turbo broke and fix the fault, otherwise, the new piece also risks breaking.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE "TURBO KILLERS"?

INSUFFICIENT LUBRIFICATION

discover the causes

CAUSES:

  • Build-up (coking) / carbon deposits in the oil feed pipe
  • Applying silicone to the oil inlet gasket causing blockages
  • A damaged, blocked or low quality oil filter
  • Oil feed pipes containing bends or kinks
  • Incorrect grade of oil is used
  • Insufficient oil in the sump

OIL CONTAMINATION

discover the causes

CAUSES:

  • If the oil filter is damaged or a poor-quality oil filter is used
  • High carbon build up present in the engine can quickly contaminate new oil
  • Excess moisture can lead to premature oil degradation, increased corrosion and increased wear
  • Unchanged oil containing detergent deposits can become very abrasive to the turbos precision components
  • Degrading oil caused by excessive temperatures or extended service intervals
  • Particles from carbon build up in oil feed pipes

FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE

discover the causes

CAUSES:

  • Particles in the exhaust gases e.g. coke from poor combustion+
  • Small particles entering through a damaged hoses connected to the turbocharger
  • Objects sucked into the air intake through damaged (or faulty), of a low quality, or missing air filter
  • Broken off engine components, e.g. valves, fragments of damaged pistons or injector tips
  • Debris from a previous turbocharger failure can stay in the systems and damage the new one

But before you start, if you don’t know us and this is the first time you hear about CENTRO TURBO, it’s really time to introduce ourselves!

NICE TO MEET YOU

I am Manuel Andreini, owner since 2017 of Centro Turbo S.r.l.

Centro Turbo is a company with over 30 years of activity and specialized in the repair, regeneration and overhaul of a turbo throughout Italy. Our customers are workshops and small-medium enterprises in the sector that deal with repairs and customer service for engine problems of their cars, motorcycles, fireplaces, tractors or boats.

In recent years I have made significant changes to the company, which have allowed us to grow a lot and differentiate ourselves from all the other similar realities in our sector, as I have found a way to reduce costs and improve the production mode without lowering quality.

In this way I managed to be much more competitive both as prices and as production and delivery times.

Well, let’s go back to our turbo…

As mentioned above, turbochargers are very reliable and less than 1% break down due to manufacturing defects.

Nowadays, time savings and efficiency have become fundamental elements for a company and a mechanical workshop.

Recognizing if the turbo is really the problem will allow you to optimize your services.

TIPS FOR A CORRECT DIAGNOS IN THE ROTTURE OF A TUBER IN CASE OF:

Error of overfeeding

After finding a turbocharger error you immediately think it is due to the turbine, but this is not always the case.

Is the mistake still present? Contact us! We will guide you step by step to solving the problem.

Our job

We specialize in the repair, regeneration and overhaul of a turbo for the automotive, land and naval handling industries, our customers are small and medium-sized workshops that in turn take care of solving a problem in a turbogroup, often a private individual.

We are able to give that specific and detailed advice that, not only leads to the identification and timely solution of the problem but, thanks to the in-depth analysis of our latest generation machinery, we are able to identify the cause to ensure that the malfunction never occurs again.

Thanks to our advice you can really give your client a detailed and professional advice that will lead him to have a vision of you as a trusted person to address every time need it, and talk about it well to all his friends, relatives and acquaintances … all this will act as a huge sounding board for your workshop and activities and will undoubtedly bring you new customers!

Take every problem calmly, do not assume that problems are where they are actually encountered… often the cause is to be found in a different but communicating piece or system.

Check out an entire vehicle, going to analyze every part of an engine even if it has already been analyzed by other professionals … very often they are just small lightness or snatised the cause of a problem that from then, in a chain, important malfunctions, which sometimes can then be transformed into serious and expensive damage.

We will help you, alongside you, to take care of the turbo of your customers to make them trust you and take you as a reference point whenever they need it.
